Long Umbrellas No Longer Allowed as Carry-on Items in Airplanes
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) no longer allows passengers to bring long umbrellas, such as walking-stick umbrellas, into an airplane’s cabin. Short umbrellas, that fit into the permitted size of a carry-on bag, are allowed. See the full current info on umbrellas at TSA.gov.
To appeal this TSA ruling you may send an email message to the Chairman of the United States Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which oversees the Transportation Security Administration. A sample message is below.
Dear Senator Peters,
The Transportation Security Administration no longer allows passengers to bring walking-stick umbrellas into an airplane’s cabin; currently only much shorter umbrellas that fit inside of a carry-on bag are allowed. However, the current TSA rules allow full-length canes, full-length crutches, and short umbrellas in the cabin; to prohibit an umbrella that also serves as a cane seems illogical, does not benefit security, and could be a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Please note that many people who need a walking stick or cane do not want to be seen using one, but find that an umbrella is an acceptable substitute.
Please use your influence to make the TSA rescind its prohibition on bringing walking-stick umbrellas into an airplane’s cabin.
Very respectfully,
(Your full name)
To send the message use the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Chairman’s (U.S. Senator Gary C. Peters) contact form at https://www.peters.senate.gov/contact/email-gary. When at the contact form, select Share Your Thoughts, then, in Your Message | MESSAGE TOPIC | –Select an Issue–: “Transportation,” in MESSAGE SUBJECT: type, for example, The new TSA anti-umbrella rule, and then, in MESSAGE, just paste your copy of the sample letter and put your full name at the end of it.
Don’t forget to check the box next to “I would like a response from the Senator.”!
Why Not “Tactical”?
None of our umbrellas is named “Tactical Umbrella,” or “Self-Defense Umbrella,” or “Security Umbrella.” Learn why from Self-Defense Tip 131 — Why Not “Tactical”?
Three Categories of People Who Buy Unbreakable® Umbrellas
Our umbrellas are bought by three categories of people, category 1, category 2, and category 3. However, our umbrellas are designed for people of category 3, not category 1 or 2. Want to find out which category you are, 1, 2, or 3? Read the post titled “Are You Category Number 1, 2, or 3?”
New Umbrella/Cane Self-Defense System
Ray Floro released a new video course, Essential Umbrella/Cane System, which teaches self-defense with the Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella model U-115, with its large crook handle, or with any strong walking cane with a crook handle. The course builds upon his Dos Manos System and adds to it even more powerful and even more foolproof techniques than those of Dos Manos System.
Below is a brief trailer for the Essential Umbrella/Cane System.

Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella vs. Machete
Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella vs. Machete: Test performed by Ray Floro of Floro Fighting Systems with Kevin Finn.
This is the kind of people who can make a good use of the Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella when it really matters…. And below is the kind that can’t:

Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella vs. Baseball Bat
Our thanks to Ray Floro of Floro Fighting Systems and Kevin Finn for performing this test. BTW, that’s the kind of people who can make a good use of the Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella when it really matters….

BTW, these are the right kind of people to carry our Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrella. I mention it because Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrellas got popular with the wrong kind (click to see what I mean).
EDC Loadout and Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrella

What Does a Good EDC Loadout Look Like?
Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrella Got Popular with the Wrong Kind
Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrellas got popular with the wrong kind — the same kind as categories 1 and 2, described in the post titled “Are You Category Number 1, 2, or 3?”. The kind that has neither brains nor hands to use our telescopic umbrellas, but buys them — because others do. The kind that needs to be told twice or more….
Yes, Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrellas got popular with the wrong kind. Too bad that kind didn’t have an opportunity to play with unexploded ordnance….
For the right kind, the kind that follows instructions and doesn’t need to be told twice, we have a video on how to carry and use the Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrella:
Bloopers from recording Wind Tunnel Test of Unbreakable® Umbrella
Two bloopers caused by wind tunnel’s operator turning the tunnel’s camera off before the end of the test. Good that our camera, looking through the tunnel’s window from outside, was on.
A blooper from recording Wind Tunnel Test of Unbreakable® Umbrella Telescopic Model U-212s. Wind speed 56 mph (90.12 km/h). See the final correct recording below.
A blooper from recording Wind Tunnel Test of Unbreakable® Umbrella Walking-Stick Model U-111. Wind speed 56 mph (90.12 km/h). See the final correct recording below.
BTW, two models of the Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella, Model U-111 (straight handle) and Model U-115 (crook handle), have the same canopy frame. The only difference between Model U-111 and Model U-115 is the handle.
Kumdo/Kendo Clownery with the Unbreakable® Umbrella
Nice display of Kumdo (a Korean version of Kendo) but for using the Unbreakable® Umbrella in self-defense Floro Fighting Systems’ Dos Manos (Two-Handed) system is better. For links to full info on the system and for a coupon code, see Self-Defense Tip #121 — Review of Ray Floro’s Dos Manos System.
Wind Tunnel Tests of Unbreakable® Umbrellas
A few asked how well Unbreakable® Umbrellas can take hurricane-force winds–as if it were a good idea to go out in a hurricane, even if not holding an umbrella, especially as sturdy one as the Unbreakable® Umbrella. But we could arrange wind tunnel tests, so here they are:
Wind tunnel test of the Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrella is posted at
https://unbreakableumbrella.com/product/unbreakable-telescopic-umbrella-model-u-212s/#wind-tunnel-u-212s
Wind tunnel test of the Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella Models U-111 and U-115 is posted at
https://unbreakableumbrella.com/unbreakable-walking-stick-umbrella-standard/#wind-tunnel-u-111-and-U-115
So you can see that any Unbreakable® Umbrella would take a hurricane-force wind way better than a fool who’d decide to hold it.
Now, info not for fools but for those who have a good reason to use their Unbreakable® Umbrella’s best capabilities:
For long blunt weapons, such as walking canes or Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella, Floro Fighting Systems’ Dos Manos (Two-Handed) system can’t be beat.
For short blunt weapons, like batons, collapsible or telescopic umbrellas, rolled newspapers, Essential Military Stick 2 is best.
Links to full info on the both systems and for coupon codes are in Self-Defense Tip #122.
We don’t get any affiliate fees from Raymond Floro or from Floro Fighting Systems. We share with you info on the above-mentioned video courses because we know his experience-based no-nonsense self-defense works.
Tactical Poppins, Weaponized Women, and the Unbreakable® Umbrella
Tactical Poppins was interviewed on Weaponized Women by Kita Busse from Bill Frady’s Lock and Load Radio.
Below is a transcript of the section of the interview where ladies talk about the Unbreakable® Umbrella.
Tell us about the umbrella.
Tactical Poppins:
So the umbrella […] is my Unbreakable Umbrella. It […] just looks like a normal everyday umbrella but it is incredibly durable. My husband actually bought it for me when I was doing the gun shows because you can’t take any kind of weapon on an airplane…. But I can take my umbrella, which … you can stand on this umbrella, you can hit people with this umbrella — it’s a self-defense weapon.
Kita Busse:
You can slice a melon with this umbrella!
Tactical Poppins:
You can! You can slice open a melon with this umbrella. It is amazing! When I first got it, we hit my heavy bag with it and … there may have been a few […] watermelons broken in the backyard with the umbrella. Uhm … so in addition to just a really good shade to have at matches it’s an excellent self-defense weapon because nobody would know that you can use that….

A glowing video review–thanks, but no thanks
Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrella Model U-202 got a video review. We hope you don’t like it. See for yourself why.
The stupid stunts are for imbeciles and the price quoted is wrong–but that’s okay. We don’t want this channel’s viewers for customers. They like such shtick, we don’t want them.

The Mancave reviews the Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella
Today, December 21, 2018, The NTOI Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella was reviewed on The Mancave (true reviews). Here is an excerpt from the review:
“The NTOI Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella is a way to protect you from the elements but can also help protect you from a would-be attacker, while maintaining an unassuming appearance.
“First of all the NTOI Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella repeals the rain well and it’s length also makes it a great walking stick as well. The unit looks great and I was amazed at how smooth the umbrella lets out. It doesn’t just pop up, but it somewhat glides when expanding. It has to be the smoothness release system I have seen on an umbrella. It also has a hair trigger, no struggling with the button on this unit.”

A Shorter, More Convenient Telescopic Unbreakable® Umbrella for You
A short model of Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrella, that fits in a jacket’s pocket, is available now at unbreakableumbrella.com/unbreakable-telescopic-umbrella-u-212s/. The model is called U-212s (s stands for short). See this model’s performance below.
Still Under the Radar
Wikipedia’s entry on umbrella, subheading “For protection against attackers,” makes no mention of the Unbreakable® Umbrella. So, it still flies under the radar. Good, let’s keep it that way.
Self-Defense with the Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrella
We’d never thought any one would ask about a system of learning and training to use the Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrella in self-defense. Even so, some asked for specific instructions on using the telescopic umbrella. These instructions (with a video) are in Self-Defense Tip 107 at real-self-defense.com.

“I often practice with my Unbreakable® Umbrella [Premium model U-105] using an Everlast PowerCore Freestanding Heavy Bag. My daughter’s boyfriend saw me practicing and asked about the umbrella. I offered it to him and said “strike the bag as hard as you’d like.” He did. The blow to the bag destroyed the column attaching the bag to the weighted base. The umbrella was unscathed. Amazing product! Good work.

Warning: Fakes and Knockoffs on Amazon and Elsewhere
More and more often we are contacted by people who were cheated, mostly on Amazon. They wanted to buy the Unbreakable® Umbrella but were sold a cheap and weak fake. When the fake breaks, they contact us and learn they have been had–they are not likely to get a refund from the Amazon’s Marketplace seller nor from Amazon itself. Below is a video showing how one such fake, the Indestructible Umbrella™, compares to the authentic Unbreakable® Umbrella.

“As a martial arts practitioner I decided to work this product a little bit myself. I practiced against standing striking bags and placed enough weight on it to break a traditional umbrella. The results revealed no damage to the structure or material of the umbrella. … The rainstorms under which I have employed it were also accompanied by strong gusts of wind. The umbrella never wavered or collapsed. Impressive indeed. Five stars.” Read the whole review at www.amazon.com/review/R34FT0BOW61M9Z/ref=cm_cr_rdp_perm?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00C2TI14E

Standard Model of the Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella Now Comes with a Choice of Handles: Crook or Straight with a Wrist Loop
Both Standard models have the same size of the canopy (open diameter 47 in/1194 mm), but differ in length and weight:
Model with straight handle is 36.75 in (933 mm) long, and weighs 1 lb 8.8 oz (705 g).
Model with crook handle is 37.75 in (959 mm) long, and weighs 1 lb 11.2 oz (775 g).
Thanks to being constructed of state-of-the-art plastics and fibers the new umbrellas are lighter than our original “Premium” model with steel ribs and metal fittings, but are longer and have a larger canopy (open diameter 47 in/1194 mm). Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella reviewed by Officer.com
Officer.com, a website on products, technology and innovation for the law enforcement community, has reviewed the Unbreakable® Walking-Stick Umbrella. Below is an excerpt from the review:
“Every baton-trained cop, and every Filipino stick-trained martial artist, has always lusted after an ordinary, common, everyday device that could be wielded like a baton or Escrima stick, mostly for those places and situations where a firearm was not permitted. We contented ourselves with canes of various weights, materials, and strengths. `A cane is a common thing that many people carry,’ we told ourselves, `no one will think of it as a weapon’. Of course, we ignored the fact that canes went out of fashion for gentlemen as the 19th century drew to a close, and that a fit-looking man or woman carrying one definitely looked out of place.
“I have no idea how the Unbreakable® Umbrella escaped my notice until now. It is the kind of quirky, brilliant, innovative, and practical thing that I love. Imagine an ordinary-looking, common, black umbrella that has the strength and resilience to strike heavy bags repeatedly with full force without any damage, and be fully operable and functional as an umbrella immediately afterwards. And I mean completely ordinary-looking–not extra big, not super-beefy. Dead ordinary: that’s how the Unbreakable® Umbrella looks. Yes, it’s covert! Even when it’s sunny, an umbrella never looks out of place, and you can take this with you anywhere in the world, anytime. Hey, it’s just an umbrella!”

“The frame of this umbrella is extremely strong. While walking around the city with a sword is unthinkable (and illegal), this umbrella even fits a business suit.
“An excellent investment in terms of defense and rain protection. Stick fighting capability also distinguishes the well-made and surprisingly hefty `self-defense umbrella,‘ which has a lifetime warranty.”—Messer Magazin in its special July 2011 issue of Schwert & Klinge (Sword and Blade), in an article on Bartitsu.
“This could be the only brolly you ever need. Not only is it strong enough to support the weight of a fully-grown man, it can also be used as a self-defence weapon.
“When wielded with appropriate force it can strike with the power of a steel pipe, and has even become a weapon of choice for the personal security guards of the president of the Philippines. It will keep the rain off, too.”—MSN Tech&Gadgets, February 1, 2011.

The Unbreakable® Umbrella works just as well as a walking stick or cane but does not make you look funny or feel awkward. Whacks just as strong as a steel pipe but it weighs only 1 lb and 11 oz (775 g).
- Legal to carry everywhere
- Never raises suspicions
- Does not make you look silly (no strange looks if carried by an able-bodied person)
Do you know how to swing a baseball bat? Do you know how to strike with a sturdy stick? If you do, you know all you need to know…
“As a Defensive Tactics Instructor and one who works with law enforcement and military personnel, I am usually quite critical of `self-defense fads.’ However, I don’t feel this product falls into that category. I think it would make for a very viable self-defense adjunct in someone’s arsenal. It is a very innocuous utilitarian object that most people would not look twice at. That is, until they felt it’s capabilities first hand.” —Mike McGuire, Edmonton, Alberta
